Mona Awad is a Canadian author and professor of creative writing. She is best known for her debut novel, 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl, which was shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Amazon First Novel Award. Her second novel, Bunny, was published in 2019 and was longlisted for the 2020 International Dublin Literary Award.
Mona was born in Montreal, Canada and grew up in the city's West Island. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from McGill University and her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Brown University. She has taught creative writing at the University of Denver and the University of East Anglia.
Mona's writing has been featured in The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Paris Review, and Granta, among other publications. She has also been a guest on the BBC Radio 4 show, Open Book.
